Driving habits really do save gas

brad, posted on July 13, 2009, 08:00

You all hear the stories that your driving habits can really save gas, but you never really know how much.

My Truck - 2004 F-150 Triton V8I currently drive a 2004 F-150 with a Triton V-8 in it.  To those of you who don't know much about trucks, that is the biggest engine you can get in it.  I do love the truck, but my gas mileage sucks.  I bought it before gas prices went through the roof.

I was recently talking to a business associate, and he had asked me about my truck.  He had asked me about what kind of mileage do I get, and I told him I am getting about 17 mpg.  He looked at me like 'how in the world do you get that good of mileage on that truck?' More...

More Ideas on Gas Saving Techniques

Brad, posted on June 22, 2009, 09:00

I hope everyone had a happy Father's Day!

I ran across this article on MSN this weekend.  It shows 10 ways to help with your gas mileage.  It even has a tip in there about squeezing a little extra mileage out of a hybrid, and some links to helping buy your next car.  Anyway, I hope you get something out of this article.

An Update

Brad, posted on June 19, 2009, 12:56

I have been busy with other personal matters, and have been wanting to get back to blogging on here.

I am still recycling my plastic, glass, cardboard, and plastic bags.  I have it down pretty well, and even my visitors know that I recycle and they co-operate well.  I have not found anyplace to take my electronics.  The only places I have found are ones that havea limit on how many items you can bring, and sometimes they charge a fee to bring things in.  I have not had any luck finding any place that fits my needs.

I am still driving my truck conservatively, and driving the motorcycle when it is nice enough outside.

I am putting up a link to another site that also has some good ideas to help conserve energy.

Gas saving - My Truck (UGH!)

Brad, posted on May 29, 2008, 08:52

Well, gas has hit the $4.00 a gallon mark.  I drive a gas guzzling truck, and it has hit me hard.  I have looked into a few things on saving gas, and I have seen a lot of things.  The number 1 thing that is helping me, I don't have a commute.  I have hardly put any gas into my truck at all. I have put maybe 700 miles on it this month alone.  That is a huge decrease in what is normal.  I end up staying home a little more than I would like, but I am quickly starting to dislike the business practices of big oil.  I even mow my lawn faster, and as efficiently as possible.  I have a rider, because the yard is too big for me to mow by hand.  Honestly it probably uses less gas for me to use a rider, because it would take A LOT longer using a push mower. Update on recycling and Phase #2, Computer recycling

brad, posted on April 19, 2008, 07:00

Well, the phase #1 of recycling my plastics is going well.  I have found a few more plastic containers that I can recycle, and that is good news.  I am also noticing a difference already this week when I took my trash out.  Phase #2 is proving to me more difficult than I had expected.

When I took my trash out this week, I had almost half the trash than I normally take out.  It may have been a little more than half than normal, but I have definitely noticed a huge decrease in what I put out there.  I am starting to see why people recycle. More...

Phase #1: Recycling has been implemented. Phase #2 gets started

brad, posted on April 14, 2008, 07:00

Based on the information on the sites, I found out that I can recycle a lot in my area.  The best part about it, is that most of the everyday stuff has a collection area near where I do my normal grocery shopping.  That is excellent, it means I don't have to drive my gas guzzler anyplace extra to drop off my recyclables.

So, I have purchased four 21 gallon bins for my purposes.  I have one for plastic bottles and containers, one for paper, one for plastic grocery bags, and one for overflow.  I am sure the plastic containers will go into the overflow.  I have found a couple of very convenient, and out of the way places for my containers, and I am comfortable with my decisions.  Now on to the next phase.
