Driving habits really do save gas

You all hear the stories that your driving habits can really save gas, but you never really know how much.

I currently drive a 2004 F-150 with a Triton V-8 in it.  To those of you who don't know much about trucks, that is the biggest engine you can get in it.  I do love the truck, but my gas mileage sucks.  I bought it before gas prices went through the roof. 

I was recently talking to a business associate, and he had asked me about my truck.  He had asked me about what kind of mileage do I get, and I told him I am getting about 17 mpg.  He looked at me like 'how in the world do you get that good of mileage on that truck?' More...

I hope everyone had a happy Father's Day! 

I ran across this article on MSN this weekend.  It shows 10 ways to help with your gas mileage.  It even has a tip in there about squeezing a little extra mileage out of a hybrid, and some links to helping buy your next car.  Anyway, I hope you get something out of this article.

An Update

I have been busy with other personal matters, and have been wanting to get back to blogging on here. 

I am still recycling my plastic, glass, cardboard, and plastic bags.  I have it down pretty well, and even my visitors know that I recycle and they co-operate well.  I have not found anyplace to take my electronics.  The only places I have found are ones that havea limit on how many items you can bring, and sometimes they charge a fee to bring things in.  I have not had any luck finding any place that fits my needs.

I am still driving my truck conservatively, and driving the motorcycle when it is nice enough outside.

I am putting up a link to another site that also has some good ideas to help conserve energy.

Well, gas has hit the $4.00 a gallon mark.  I drive a gas guzzling truck, and it has hit me hard.  I have looked into a few things on saving gas, and I have seen a lot of things.  The number 1 thing that is helping me, I don't have a commute.  I have hardly put any gas into my truck at all. I have put maybe 700 miles on it this month alone.  That is a huge decrease in what is normal.  I end up staying home a little more than I would like, but I am quickly starting to dislike the business practices of big oil.  I even mow my lawn faster, and as efficiently as possible.  I have a rider, because the yard is too big for me to mow by hand.  Honestly it probably uses less gas for me to use a rider, because it would take A LOT longer using a push mower.
